"90% of the world’s most powerful supercomputers using an operating system Linux, in fact, the top ten of supercomputers use Linux."
CentOS is developed by a small but growing team of core developers. In turn the core developers are supported by an active user community including system administrators, network administrators, enterprise users, managers, core Linux contributors and Linux enthusiasts from around the world.
Each CentOS version is supported for up to 10 years (by means of security updates -- the duration of the support interval has varied over time as the release policy as to upstream Source RPM changes).
Advantages of CentOS: offers a lot more operational stability to users than other freely distributed Linux systems because of design similarities with the commercially released system. By a good reasons, it is also very fast and reliable. CentOS is just one of many widely available Linux-based operating systems that are available for free.
